The U.S. government feared the fall of Vietnam to communism.  The public however was still straying away from foreign affairs because of damage they had seen during WWII.  They were currently in a state of peace and prosperity, during which new technology was spreading, and the baby boomers were arriving.  Therefore it would be difficult to convince the public to join the war effort by simply explaining the risk of the spread of communism…
